PRU, was founded by the support and sponsorship of the whole maritime sector (almost 9000 stakeholders), namely Turkish Chamber of Shipping (TCS), through Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV) as a Maritime University. TÜDEV, forming the core of PRU, has a very successful history of training of seafarers and EU Projects since 1993 to bring the Turkish Shipping Sector to the world class standards and to establish maritime policies and identify targets that will enhance the economic power, welfare and efficiency of the country in this area as well as to train professional personnel and opening and operating special training institutions for the interested persons to have a career or assisting the educational institutions on maritime to be opened and improve their capabilities in terms of facilities and education with a goal to promote the Turkish Shipping Industry.
There is totally 121 permanent full time academic staff (18 professors, 6 associate professors, 33 assistant professors, 40 lecturers, 24 researchers), 56 part time lecturers and 3176 full time degree and post graduate (master and PhD) students including students from foreign countries.  Approximately 600 professionals are attending professional development courses at the continuous vocational training centre of the university at various ranks and seniority in different times of the year.
It is the only Turkish maritime university which delivers MET to its students entirely in English language, so it comes along with a fresh expertise regarding Maritime English requirements from the maritime industry.



The "Mircea cel Batran" Naval Academy is continuing the Romanian maritime and river education system established in 1872. Since 1954 the academy was integrated in the polytechnical higher education system and in 1990 it received the current status as a naval academy. It educates and trains Navy and Coast Guard officers, merchant marine officers and maritime & port managers at both bachelour and master degree levels. The scientific research work is mainly addressed to the shipping industry and naval defence. It also provides qualification courses for the merchant marine industry, recognized by the International Maritime Organisation all over the world. The "Mircea cel Batran" Naval Academy is a medium-size university (2,000 students) and it is the traditional provider of Romanian mariners for both civilian maritime industry and the national security and defence system.
The Naval Academy applies a strong quality management system, according to the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 standard. Following the 2 institutional evaluations conducted by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in the Higher Education in 2009 and 2015, the Romanian Naval Academy was rewarded with the highest quality level, "high level of trust". These classifications recognized the quality of education and training, the research in the field of expertise, the lifelong learning approach and the strong internationalisation policy. The educational networks to which the Naval Academy belongs to, along the constant  involvement in NATO and EU security and defence organisations and projects allowed it to become a provider of European maritime education and training of the highest level, fully recognized by the European maritime community.



The Polish Naval Academy of Gdynia is the main provider of higher education for both civilian and military seafarers of Poland. It delivers to over 4,000 students maritime engineering and management study programmes at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. The research activity is focused on the field of maritime industry and naval defence. Its presence in the European higher education area is fully recognised thanks to its involvement in numerous educational and research projects in bilateral partnerships and various consortia. The experience and skills of the teaching and research staff are good indicators of the quality of education in the Polish Naval Academy, in accordance with the ISO 9001:2008 quality criteria.



The "Nikola Y. Vaptsarov" Naval Academy of Varna is the only higher education institution in Bulgaria for the maritime officers and managers, both civilian and military. It delivers 3-cycle study programmes in the field of maritime transportation, management and security & defence. The Bulgarian Naval Academy has about 3,500 students overall and a professional teaching and research staff. Scientific research is focused on all areas of the maritime industry, thus including the maritime/naval leadership topics. Based on ISO 9001 certification, the Naval Academy is holding also the highest degree of quality in higher education in Bulgaria. Its international presence is very visible as well, due to its study programmes for foreign students in English language and the various projects in bilateral or European projects. It is also a major actor in the International Association of Maritime Universities, holding the directorate of the European zone of IAMU in the last 4 years.
